Some people just don't like music--here's why
By: Ella, with information from Straight Arrow News

What do you feel when you listen to music? Does it make you wanna get up and dance, or just wait for it to end?
Well, if it’s the latter, you may have a condition called Musical Anhedonia, a disorder characterized by the disconnection between the brain’s audio processing system and reward system. According to study in Cell Press, this causes around 5-10% of the population to not feel anything when exposed to music and is usually genetic, but can be caused by a traumatic brain injury. People who suffer from Musical Anhedonia can react positively towards other stimuli; but people can experience general Anhedonia. General Anhedonia means you don’t react positively towards anything, and is usually associated with depression.
However, neither of these disorders impede someone’s ability to understand and distinguish parts of music. Research has shown that people with Musical Anhedonia can still distinguish chords and recognize different songs. But, people with Musical Anhedonia don’t enjoy listening to music and find pleasure in other things.
Now, does any of this sound like you? Let me know in the comments.
